Birkshaw Forest (nr Lockerbie) Butterfly Walk 4/8/13

Join us on a walk to hopefully see Essex Skippers with the possibility of catching the tail end of Large & Small Skippers too. Also a good site for Common Blue, Small Heath, 6-Spot Burnet etc.
Meet at 13:30 at OS grid NY 121 778.
Wear stout shoes & bring something to drink.

If anybody would like a lift from Glasgow or enroute from there I currently have space in the car.

Despite some initial concerns due to the breeze we succeeded in seeing our target species of Essex Skipper.
Also Small Tortoiseshell, Red Admiral, Peacock, Painted Lady, Common Blue, Small Copper, Meadow Brown, Ringlet, Dark Green Fritillary, Green-veined, Small & Large Whites plus some day-flying moths.
All in, a very nice afternoon's walk with a nice group of people.

Before heading for home I then got my own individual guided tour (thanks Jim) of http://www.lockerbie-wildlife-trust.co. ... serve.html which is a great small nature reserve on the edge of Lockerbie & well worth visiting if you get a chance.
