HI Ron,
I'm not 100% sure but I think it's a Pale-Shouldered Brocade. I'll send a link to the Ayrshire VC moth recorder to see what he thinks. Don't think its a Sand dart though unfortunately.

Hi Ron, Don't be put off by the huge number of species, IDing definitely gets easier with experiance. A really good site I would recommend for posting tricky IDs is the Scottish Moths Yahoo group. http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/ScottishMoths/
There are lots of really experianced moth'ers who are always willing to help with IDs. I'm really just a beginner myself and use it quite often. UK moths is another great site for comparing with species that you've photographed. http://ukmoths.org.uk/
