Could someone please identify this lovely large moth which I saw this afternoon close to Littlemill Bing, Rankinston, Ayrshire.

It's generally the male emperor moth that is seen by day scouring the heather for the female you saw. It is a fast flying very colourful moth with bright orange hindwings.
