Birkshaw Forest 15/7/13 - Skippers

Postby ScottD » Mon Jul 15, 2013 7:45 pm

a bit overcast & breezy when I got there this afternoon. However,
2 Green-veined whites
10+ Large Skippers on the track to the gated compound
20+ mixed Small & Essex Skippers inside the fenced/gated area. They were not being too cooperative for ID & photography in the breeze but my gut says that there were more Essex than Small.
10+ Common Blues (m&f) all very fresh
20+ Small Heath - mostly in the compound
a lot of Ringlets & Meadow Browns
day-flying moth wise 6-spot Burnets, Latticed Heaths, Chimney Sweeper
Cinnabar caterpillars

Hi Scott
A great result, nice to know they're thriving over the last five years
