Butterflies and Moths for Beginners Workshop at Palacerigg Country Park, Cumbernauld
Kick Start the year adn get ready for Spring with our beginners guide to Butterflies and Moths.Indoor talk and tutorial on butterfly and moth identification. Wester Moss Action Day, Fallin, Stirlingshire
Joint Butterfly Conservation/Stirlingshire ranger event to remove invasive scrub & conifers from the Wester Moss SSSI raised bog. We will meet at 10.30am at the outdoor mining museum car park (Grid Ref: NS 836907 /Postcode approx FK7 7GY), and the work will involve pulling up and/or cutting pine saplings that are invading the bog. It is quite light but very satisfying work, so do please come along for as much of the day as you can. Bring wellies, waterproofs and old clothes, a hot drink and packed lunch. Wester Moss Action Day, Fallin, Stirlingshire
Everyone is very welcome to our next workparty at this wonderful site. We will meet at 10.15am at the outdoor mining museum car park (Grid Ref: NS 838915 /Postcode approx FK7 7GY) in Fallin on the A905, which is just past a small woodland on the right if you are driving from Stirling. The work will involve construction of dams to block old drainage ditches to maintain water levels and stop the bog leaking, and the removal of old colliery rubbish. It is very satisfying work, so do please come along for as much of the day as you can. We will plan to work until about 3pm, depending on the weather. Bring wellies/stout waterproof boots, waterproofs and old clothes, a hot drink and packed lunch and good quality work gloves if you have them. We will have spare gloves on the day. Please ensure that your tetanus injections are up to date. Please email or phone in advance to let us know you are attending. Chequered Skipper Weekend
Visit well known Chequered Skipper site at Glasdrum NNR, near Oban on the Saturday - Pearl-bordered may also be on the wing. On the Sunday you may wish to head off to historical Chequered Skipper sites in North Argyll or Lochaber. If the Saturday is rained off, the CS event will be re-scheduled for the Sunday. Meet at Glasdrum NNR car park NN001454 at 10.30AM. Moth trapping from 8.00AM. Walking boots, warm waterproof clothing, packed lunch and water required. Marsh Fritillary Event
Meet at Taynish Mill (NR738849), Taynish NNR from 9.00am for moth trapping. Marsh Fritillary event to Tayvallich Peninsular follows at 11.00 am. Only small numbers of Marsh Fritillary are likely to be seen as few were on wing last year but this is an opportunity to visit some amazing Marsh Fritillary habitat on the Tayvallich Peninsular.
